Apple TV is reportedly considering transforming a storyline connected to the acclaimed series Slow Horses into a feature film. The project would expand the popular espionage franchise, which has already garnered significant attention from critics and viewers alike.

TL;DR

  • Fans want spin-offs from the acclaimed Slow Horses series.
  • Nobody Walks emerges as a prime adaptation candidate.
  • No official film plans yet, but rich source material remains.

A Rich Tapestry Beyond the Main Series

Since its debut, the acclaimed Apple TV production Slow Horses has carved out a reputation as one of the most compelling contemporary espionage thrillers. Anchored by stellar performances—chief among them, an unforgettable turn by Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb—the show draws from the bestselling novels of Mick Herron. As each new season appears in quick succession (with seasons five and six filmed back-to-back), viewers’ appetite for stories set in this shadowy world shows no sign of fading. Unsurprisingly, speculation and hope are mounting around possible spin-offs that might delve further into this universe’s many corners.

Unexplored Gems: The Satellite Novels

Although the television series focuses mainly on adapting Herron’s principal nine-book saga, his literary output extends beyond those pages. Four additional novellas connect to Slough House, while three other novels—Reconstruction, Nobody Walks, and most recently, The Secret Hours—unfold within the same universe, each exploring new characters and dimensions. Among these works, it is arguably Nobody Walks, published in 2015, that stands out as particularly ripe for cinematic adaptation.

Nobody Walks: Noir Intrigue Across Borders

Unlike its predecessors, this standalone thriller trails former MI5 agent Tom Bettany. After his wife’s tragic death, Bettany finds himself working at a food processing plant in France—until the sudden loss of his son Liam lures him back to London. There he is swiftly swept into a maze of local criminal networks and entanglements with former intelligence colleagues. The narrative pulses with tension reminiscent of some of Liam Neeson’s most intense performances—somber and relentlessly gripping.
Several familiar faces from the main series cross paths with Bettany along his journey:

  • Dame Ingrid Tearney, who makes her notable debut here;
  • J.K. Coe—portrayed by Tom Brooke in the show—with storylines linking directly to Slough House.

Such connections not only enrich existing lore but also offer natural bridges for any future on-screen ventures.

The Road to Adaptation: Still Uncertain

Yet for all the buzz, there is still no official word regarding a screen version of Nobody Walks. In a 2022 exchange with Radio Times, author Mick Herron acknowledged: “There haven’t been discussions about this yet—but it remains a possibility.” Similarly, former showrunner Will Smith remarked to Collider that The Secret Hours would be well suited to either film or miniseries treatment.
For now, though, aficionados can take comfort in this: between core novels and untapped offshoots already published or forthcoming, Apple TV holds an enviable reservoir of stories to keep audiences immersed in the intricate world of modern British intelligence for seasons—and perhaps spin-offs—to come.
