Apple’s Smart Display Revolutionizes Homes: Features and Pricing Unveiled

A new report reveals comprehensive details about Apple's smart display, including pricing, features, and more.
Apple Dives into Smart Home Market
Apple, a giant in the smartphone industry, is now setting its sights on dominating the smart home sector. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the company plans to become a significant player in this field within the next two years.
Innovative Devices Under Development
Apple is working on two main products. The first is a smart display designed to compete with Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub. Described by Gurman as an “affordable iPad-like screen”, it’s intended for streaming on Apple TV Plus, making FaceTime calls, browsing the internet, and utilizing planning apps like Calendar and Notes.
The second device is a “robotic tabletop device” priced around $1,000. Featuring a swiveling robotic arm with a mounted display, it focuses on home security monitoring, advanced video conferencing, and media playback with high-quality sound.
Artificial Intelligence at the Strategy’s Core
Artificial intelligence will be pivotal for these devices. Gurman notes that AI will help them interpret their surroundings, identify who is watching the screen, their activities, and who is speaking. These products will join the HomePod and Apple TV as part of Apple’s home device lineup, with a strategy that extends beyond the devices themselves.
New Team and Software Development
To support these ambitions, Apple is assembling a new “Home Ecosystem” team and is relying on AI to deliver sophisticated home automation and precise control over apps, devices, and media. Software will also play a crucial role in this endeavor. Apple plans to develop homeOS, a new home operating system based on the tvOS that powers the Apple TV.
Despite trailing Amazon in smart home market share, Gurman believes the race is far from over. “No one has truly mastered the smart home market yet,” he concludes. “But eventually, someone will. If the right pieces fall into place, it could – and should – be Apple.”
