Asus has launched the world's first wearable device capable of measuring blood pressure, a groundbreaking technological advancement that transforms daily health monitoring.

A Technological Feat with a Catch

The latest announcement from Asus is hard to ignore. Their new VivoWatch 6 Aero aims to shake up the wearable market by being the first globally to integrate ECG and fingertip blood pressure measurement, a bold claim for a device weighing just 27 grams.

Innovative Sensors… But Questions Remain

At the heart of this device is an unusual sensor at the front of the band, which not only includes a standard optical detector but also features a rim that acts as an ECG electrode. Users simply place their finger on this sensor while other sensors under the wrist record heart rate details. However, Asus has not disclosed specific details on how these traditionally pulse and oxygen saturation-focused technologies achieve reliable blood pressure readings.

This uncertainty is due to several factors:

Lack of approval from U.S. health authorities (FDA)
Potentially variable availability across different markets
Mixed experiences from other tech giants like Apple in this technical field

Attractive Features and Battery Life

Beyond potential breakthroughs, the VivoWatch 6 Aero boasts familiar perks. It features a compact 1.1-inch OLED screen and built-in GPS for activity tracking, with a declared battery life of five to seven days depending on usage. Its water resistance (5 ATM) matches competitors like Fitbit’s Inspire 3, while offering more functionalities.

Context and Uncertain Future

As of now, neither the price nor an exact global launch date has been released. It’s worth noting that the previous model, the VivoWatch 5 Aero—which was the first to simultaneously incorporate PTT and SpO₂—aimed for innovation without being prohibitively expensive. As Asus tries to make its mark in the health wearable ecosystem, it remains to be seen whether this technological promise will convince both consumers and official regulators.
