During a feature on the French TV show “Sept à huit” on TF1, American billionaire Bill Gates shared a surprising detail. He revealed that his three children, Jennifer (28), Rory (25), and Phoebe (22), will inherit only a tiny portion of his vast wealth.

A Fortune Largely Dedicated to Philanthropy

The 69-year-old Microsoft co-founder explained in the interview that while his children will receive substantial amounts, these represent only a small percentage of his total fortune. Highlighting his children’s commitment to making the world a better place, Gates stated that the majority of his wealth would go to the foundation he started with his ex-wife in 2000. He justified his decision by quoting his mother: “My mother used to say that those who are given much should give much in return”.

Bill Gates, a Billionaire in Decline?

Although still a prominent figure in the tech industry, Bill Gates’s wealth appears to have slightly decreased recently. According to Forbes, Gates fell out of the top 10 richest people globally in 2024, now ranking 12th with an estimated fortune of $107 billion. The list is headed by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, who became the first person to amass a fortune exceeding $400 billion.
