The value of this cryptocurrency recently surpassed $100,000. Despite its success, the identity of its creator remains a mystery, and the currency has been marred by various scandals.

Bitcoin: A Currency Shrouded in Mystery and Controversy

Bitcoin has reached a new milestone, surpassing the symbolic $100,000 mark. However, its success is shadowed by a history filled with mysteries and controversies.

Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?

The creation of Bitcoin remains a hotly debated topic. The principles of this digital currency were introduced on October 31, 2008, in a White Paper signed by someone named Satoshi Nakamoto. The true identity of this individual or group has sparked intense speculation. Australian computer scientist Craig Wright claimed to be Satoshi, but his assertion was dismissed by a British judge.

A Cryptocurrency Marred by Scandals

Bitcoin has often been spotlighted for the wrong reasons. It has been linked to illegal activities on the “darknet” and accused of being a vehicle for money laundering.

It is also used for extortion in ransomware attacks. Additionally, the cryptocurrency sector has experienced the downfall of several high-profile entrepreneurs and spectacular bankruptcies.

Increasing Legitimacy

Nevertheless, Bitcoin is gradually gaining legitimacy. El Salvador became the first country to adopt it as legal tender. The U.S. financial regulator has approved a new type of investment tied to Bitcoin. Moreover, some merchants, including billionaire Elon Musk, have started accepting it as a payment method.

Bitcoin’s operation is also unique. It is based on blockchain technology, a virtual ledger that enables secure, reliable, and immutable storage and exchange of information. “Miners” contribute to the creation of blockchains by validating transactions.
