Bluesky has enhanced its platform by introducing new features, including the ability to upload three-minute videos and improved inbox management, ensuring an even better user experience.

Bluesky: A New Era for Content Creators

Bluesky, the rapidly growing social media platform, now offers increased flexibility for its users. The latest app update allows for video uploads up to three minutes long, significantly extending the previous one-minute limit. This is a boon for content creators on Bluesky, as well as enthusiasts of Flashes, a new photo and video app based on Bluesky.

The premium app Dfly finally makes Bluesky accessible on desktops, iPads, and soon on iPhones and Microsoft devices. With Dfly, you can browse your feed on your Apple device, receive notifications for interactions, compose posts with a smooth and intuitive interface, and effectively manage your network with clear, straightforward actions.

Tools for Improved Message Management

The app doesn’t stop there and addresses a critical need in message management. New features include a “requests” section for incoming messages from unknown users. It’s also now possible to decline incoming chats, a valuable tool for reducing the influx of unwanted messages that have recently plagued many users’ inboxes.

Bluesky: A Social Media Platform “Billionaire-Proof”

This update comes as Bluesky’s CEO, Jay Graber, spoke at a SXSW keynote about the decentralized social media platform, which boasts nearly 33 million users. According to Graber, Bluesky is “billionaire-proof” compared to other apps. She stated: “If a billionaire came and bought Bluesky, or took control, or if I decided tomorrow to change things in a way that people really don’t like, then they could fork and move to another app.”

Business Model and Generative AI: Bluesky’s New Horizons

Graber also discussed Bluesky’s business model and generative AI. She reaffirmed that the company is considering “subscriptions” and “paid development services” for those creating experiences on Bluesky. Meanwhile, Bluesky is exploring how to transform features like moderation services or personalized feeds into a “marketplace” where the company could earn a portion of potential transactions. Regarding large language models, she mentioned that the company is working with partners to develop a user consent framework for the use of their data in generative AI.
