ChatGPT Arrives on WhatsApp: AI at Your Fingertips

OpenAI is transforming AI accessibility by integrating ChatGPT into WhatsApp, allowing users to engage with it instantly without needing to create an account.
ChatGPT Arrives on WhatsApp
“We are just beginning to make ChatGPT accessible to everyone,” stated Kevin Weil, OpenAI’s product chief, during the recent 12 Days of OpenAI livestream. This marks a significant development as ChatGPT, OpenAI’s chatbot, is now available on WhatsApp. Starting today, by adding the number 1 (800) 242-8478 to your contacts, you can use it on Meta’s messaging app.
Breaking Global Barriers
ChatGPT’s availability is unrestricted across all regions where OpenAI operates its chatbot. Importantly, no account creation is needed to start using it. OpenAI also plans to introduce a way to authenticate existing users on WhatsApp, though no specific launch date for this feature has been announced yet.
In the United States, a Help Line
Beyond its integration into WhatsApp, OpenAI has launched a ChatGPT help line in the U.S. This line, which uses the same number as WhatsApp, 1 (800) 242-8478, is compatible with all types of phones, from smartphones to old flip phones. It offers 15 minutes of free ChatGPT usage. Access to additional time is available by logging into your account.
Continuous Evolution
The availability of ChatGPT on WhatsApp and the launch of the help line are just two of the features recently unveiled by OpenAI. Other livestreams have shown that ChatGPT Search is now available to all free users, and the Sora video generation tool has moved out of private preview. As Kevin Weil said, OpenAI is just starting to make ChatGPT more accessible to everyone.
