ChatGPT Hits 3 Billion Visits in September

Since reaching its peak and subsequent summer low in 2023, ChatGPT has recently set new attendance records. Will it continue this upward trend?
Explosive Growth for ChatGPT
2024 marks a banner year for ChatGPT, witnessing a dramatic spike in web traffic. Similarweb’s data shows a 112% increase in site visits in September compared to the same month last year, reaching 3.1 billion.
The number of monthly active users (MAU) on the ChatGPT app surged by 109% on iOS and Android in the U.S. compared to the previous year, while in the UK, the increase was an impressive 200.7%. Globally, Android usage of the app soared by 249% year-over-year.
ChatGPT: A Formidable Competitor
Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has rapidly climbed the ranks to become one of the world’s most visited digital sites. Though not yet on par with google.com (82 billion visits) or youtube.com (28 billion), it has outpaced amazon.com (2.6 billion visits) and even Microsoft Bing in global traffic.

Surpassing Bing
September 2024 marks the first month ChatGPT exceeded Bing’s traffic in the U.S., highlighting its remarkable growth trajectory since 2023.
A Loyal Audience
User engagement appears to have improved with several product enhancements launched in late summer 2023. Whether the traffic dip in summer 2023 was due to reliance on students using the tool for homework or not, ChatGPT now seems to have secured a more loyal audience.
Despite the comparison with Bing, it’s important to note that Microsoft is not a direct competitor but a close partner of OpenAI, the owner of ChatGPT. Nevertheless, these statistics confirm that ChatGPT has become a major player on the web, and its expanding mobile presence suggests a bright future ahead.
