How Does It Work?
Travelers with an iPhone, iPad, or Mac running iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS Sequoia 15.2 can create a location-sharing link through the “Find My” app. This link can be shared with the airline, allowing them to view the lost item’s location on an interactive map.
Security and Data Protection
Location sharing is private and secure. Each link is only accessible to a limited number of verified individuals via an Apple account or partner email. “Location sharing stops as soon as the user is reunited with their item, or whenever the item’s owner chooses to end it.” Moreover, shared location links automatically expire after seven days, with the entire process being end-to-end encrypted.
The Future of “Find My”
More aviation stakeholders, including Dutch Airlines, Qantas, Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines, and KLM Royal, are considering supporting this feature. As a result, “Find My” could soon become an invaluable tool for the growing number of travelers using Apple devices globally.
