"Submerged" marks Apple's first foray into Immersive Vision Pro cinema. Watch the trailer now.

Apple Unveils First Film for Its Vision Pro Headset

Today, Apple captivated audiences by releasing the trailer for the short film Submerged. This groundbreaking movie is the first feature designed specifically for Apple’s Vision Pro headset.

An Immersive Journey into Virtual Reality

First announced in July, Submerged is part of a series of immersive videos created for the Vision Pro, including documentaries and travel journals. Among these, “Wild Life” offers an immersive experience with wild animals like elephants and divers in the Bahamas. However, Submerged is unique as it is scripted and filmed as a cinematic movie.

The short film is set during World War II and follows a group of sailors trying to survive a torpedo attack. The duration of the film has not been disclosed, but it is expected to be longer than Apple’s other immersive video “experiences,” which last between five and fifteen minutes.

A Renowned Director at the Helm

Submerged was directed by Austrian filmmaker Edward Berger, known for his Netflix remake of “All Quiet on the Western Front,” one of Netflix’s top war movies.

The immersive videos are presented in 3D and aim to give viewers the sensation of being inside the scene. Mark Spoonauer, editor-in-chief of Begeek.fr Global, has tested several of these immersive videos and even watched standard shows like “The Last of Us” on the Vision Pro, describing the experience as immersive yet surprisingly isolating.

How to Watch Submerged?

Those without a Vision Pro can watch immersive videos through the Apple TV app, provided they are in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, or Singapore. Submerged will be available starting Thursday, October 10.
