Easy Sharing Between iPhone and PC: Microsoft Changes the Game

Microsoft has introduced a new method that simplifies file sharing between your iPhone and PC, similar to AirDrop for Windows.
Apple’s latest iOS 18.2 update introduces a slew of new features, yet a complementary feature from Microsoft could be a game-changer for Windows PC users.
## A New Feature from Microsoft
Microsoft is set to roll out a new feature named **Phone Link** that allows seamless file sharing between your iPhone and Windows PC wirelessly. This feature works similarly to Apple’s AirDrop, which is limited to Apple devices only. Now, owning a MacBook is no longer necessary for wireless file sharing between your iPhone and PC.
## Availability and Operation
According to Microsoft, this feature is currently being released to Windows Insiders, with plans to expand access to more users later. File sharing will be compatible with Windows 11 and Windows 10 PCs, provided the iPhone runs on iOS 16 or newer.
To activate this feature, you’ll need the free ‘Link to Windows’ app from the App Store and the latest version of Phone Link on your PC.
## Phone Link: A Versatile Tool
Phone Link is not a new application per se. It’s a Windows app that enables users to sync their smartphones, whether iOS or Android, with their PC. Its capabilities include reading and responding to text messages, making phone calls, and viewing notifications from your PC. Now, it will also offer “seamless” file sharing.
While a broader release date for Phone Link on Windows 11 and 10 has not been disclosed, you can experiment with it by joining the Windows Insider program. Apple’s AirDrop has long been a boon for those frequently sharing files across Apple products, but soon, iPhone and Windows PC owners will enjoy similar benefits.
Additional useful features are on the horizon for iPhones with iOS 18.2, which includes a host of Apple Intelligence features to explore.
