iOS 18.3 Update Finally Arrives
After over a month in beta, the iOS 18.3 update is now available for all users with compatible devices starting this Monday. This new version brings a mix of major and minor changes, including the default activation of Apple Intelligence (US version), though users can opt out if they choose.
Apple Intelligence Takes the Spotlight
Earlier this month, Apple announced that a future update would enhance the accuracy of notification summaries generated by Apple Intelligence. This feature, launched in October with iOS 18.1, was initially criticized following erroneous summaries reported by the BBC, including false information about a murder suspect’s suicide and incorrect claims about tennis star Rafael Nadal’s sexuality.
Corrections and Enhancements
In response to these issues, Apple temporarily suspended notification summaries for all news alerts in the iOS 18.3 beta. While their reinstatement in the public version is not yet confirmed, their return is inevitable. Additionally, summaries now appear in italics with a bolded “Summarized by Apple Intelligence” label beneath each AI-generated summary.
To encourage the adoption of Apple Intelligence on compatible devices, iOS 18.3 automatically enables a range of AI-related features during initial setup, with the option to disable them in Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri.
