ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode Gets a Refresh

The Advanced Voice Mode is a key part of the user experience, and OpenAI has decided to revamp it. Announced earlier this week, this update promises a more conversational interaction with the model, at no extra cost to existing customers.

ChatGPT: A More Natural Conversation

As revealed by Manuka Stratta, a post-training researcher at OpenAI, in a YouTube video, the Advanced Voice Mode will no longer cut in or interrupt when you pause. “The model interrupts less, giving you more time to gather your thoughts without feeling the need to fill every silence,” she explains.

Demonstrating the new model, Stratta initiates a conversation with ChatGPT, inserting pauses at unconventional points. The model adjusts its responses accordingly, allowing Stratta to finish her thoughts before it begins speaking.

Reducing friction in interactions with chatbots marks a significant move towards more natural conversations. The update is free for all ChatGPT users, but subscribers to ChatGPT Plus also gain access to a more customizable version. Launched late last year, the Advanced Voice Mode uses the GPT-4o model, which integrates text, vision, and audio processing for quicker and more effective responses.
