A century ago, a British climber vanished. Since 1920, over 300 people have died on the world's highest mountain. Are you ready to tackle this formidable climb?

Century-Old Mystery Potentially Solved

A pivotal historical event has come to light. The remains, believed to be of British mountaineer Andrew Irvine who vanished a century ago while attempting to summit Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, have been discovered. This revelation was made by National Geographic on Friday, October 11, 2024.

Discovery of a Major Clue

A significant breakthrough was the uncovering of a red sock labeled “A.C. IRVINE”. This sock was found by a team funded by the American magazine National Geographic, inside a shoe with human remains embedded in the central Rongbuk glacier beneath Everest’s north face. Irvine’s family has agreed to provide DNA samples to confirm the identity of the remains.

A Quest That Sheds Light on the Past

The pursuit of Andrew Irvine and his compatriot George Mallory has etched a mark in mountaineering history. Last seen on June 8, 1924, mere hundreds of meters from Everest’s summit, they vanished. Mallory’s body was discovered in 1999 above 8,300 meters. Many believe they reached the summit before Sir Edmund Hillary and Nepalese sherpa Tensing Norkay, who are officially recognized as the first to conquer Everest in 1953.

A Deadly Mountain

Since the 1920s, over 300 climbers have perished attempting to conquer Everest. Global warming annually exposes the bodies of climbers preserved in Himalayan ice, serving as silent testimonies to history and reminders of Everest’s allure and peril.
