Fitbit.com Shuts Down Next Week – Here’s What You Need to Know
Some Fitbit models will soon be available for purchase on the Google Store. Have you thought about which one you might be interested in?
Fitbit Joins the Google Store
Google’s gradual integration of Fitbit continues, with the technology giant confirming the shutdown of Fitbit.com by the end of September. However, the company’s top fitness trackers will still be available for now.
Impending Move
A recent notification spotted by TechRadar on Fitbit’s website announced that the Fitbit store will transition to the Google Store starting October 1st. Clicking the link directs you to the wearables section of the Google Store, where a welcoming note states: “You’ve arrived! The Google Store is your new home for everything Fitbit. Shop below or get help with your Fitbit account here.“
An Uncertain Future for Fitbit
For Fitbit enthusiasts, this represents another step in the fitness tracking company’s decline since its acquisition by Google in 2022. This move is hardly surprising, considering Google had already removed the web version of the Fitbit dashboard in July last year.
During the launch of Google Pixel Watch 3 in August, the smartwatch inherited many Fitbit features, some of which were previously exclusive to paying subscribers. Google has even praised Fitbit for its technology, which has been incorporated into the new smartwatch.
It appears Google still has plans for Fitbit. “We are very committed to Fitbit, and more importantly, to the customers who rely on and use these products and technologies,” Google told Tech Radar in August.
Fitbit Products Still on Sale
Google continues to sell the Fitbit Sense 2 and Fitbit Versa 4 smartwatches, confirming these will be the last to carry the Fitbit brand. This does not mean, however, that Google is not working on similar products.
