Gemini now provides more advanced data analysis features in Google Sheets, enhancing your data understanding and utilization.

A Significant Update to Google Sheets

Google continues to innovate, and its latest update to Google Sheets is no exception. Data visualization enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that the tech giant has recently enhanced the Gemini panel in Sheets, which was introduced last summer.

The Role of Gemini

Gemini, Google’s AI agent, now has the ability to provide deeper analyses of the data in your spreadsheets. By using the new “Analyze for insights” shortcut, Gemini will offer insights into “contextual trends, patterns, and correlations among various data variables,” according to Google.

AI-Generated Charts

Additionally, Gemini will generate charts from your data that can be inserted as static images into your document. Depending on the complexity of the request, Gemini may use Python code to perform this task. Note, however, that these charts, once inserted, are not editable. They also do not link directly to your data, meaning they will not automatically update if you make changes to your data.

Google advises to be as specific as possible when asking Gemini for data insights. “For the most accurate results, ensure your data is in a consistent format, with clear headers and no missing values,” the company adds.

Limited to Certain Users

It’s important to note that this update is only available to paid users of Google One AI Premium, or to corporate clients of the Professional or Enterprise Workspace with a Standard or Plus plan. Holders of the Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, Gemini Business, or Gemini Enterprise add-ons will also have access to this update. Google plans to complete the rollout of this feature by February 20.
