Great news for Strava users: the app has reversed an extremely unpopular decision, much to the delight of its community.

Strava Reinstates External Links

In a reversal from a decision last September, the fitness app Strava has once again allowed users to post external links.

Initiative to Combat Spam

The ban was initially implemented to protect users from spam. Strava has since enhanced its spam detection and prevention systems, enabling the reintroduction of external links.

As a social network and top fitness app, Strava recognizes the importance of links for users to connect to event registration pages, fundraising campaigns, and sports club websites.

Strava’s Apology

The decision to block links last September took users by surprise and led to significant dissatisfaction. In announcing the reversal, Strava also apologized to its users and promised “greater transparency in the future”.

Strava admitted that disabling links was “disruptive for our community” and expressed regret for the frustration caused. The company reaffirmed its commitment to future transparency.

Where Can Links Be Posted on Strava?

While some parts of the app still restrict external links, key connection areas have been opened up. Users can now post links in their athlete profiles, club descriptions, event details, and activity descriptions. Furthermore, verified club administrators can also add links to club posts.

Note that links removed when the new policy was implemented last October will not be restored, but users can now post new links in the aforementioned areas.
