Google Home Finally Supports Gemini: It’s About Time!

At last, Google Home has introduced support for Gemini, a long-awaited update.
Google Gemini Partners with Google Home for a Smarter Experience
Google advances in the smart home arena with an update to its Google Gemini app, now featuring a Google Home extension that revolutionizes interactions with your smart home devices.
More Conversational Interactions
The new extension allows Google Gemini’s smart assistant to engage in more natural conversations with your connected devices. While Google Nest previously supported voice commands, talking to Gemini feels more natural than using the standard Google assistant.
Public Preview Phase
The extension is currently in a public preview phase on Google Home, allowing you to test it out. This phase typically precedes the official launch of new features, indicating imminent availability for all users.
Compatibility and Limitations
Google’s AI supports a variety of devices including lighting, air conditioning, window coverings, TVs, speakers, and more. However, some devices like garage doors, locks, and cameras are not supported, and requests for these will redirect you to the Google Home app.
Note that this feature is available only for Android users and operates exclusively in English. To try out Gemini for Google Home, join the public preview program. Google provides a detailed guide for a seamless experience, and once registered, you can visit the Google support page to learn more about Gemini’s capabilities.
New Features and Extensions
Google has also introduced a Gemini extension for WhatsApp, enabling calls and messaging. Similarly, updates to the Messages and Phone apps function like the WhatsApp extension.
