Google Innovates: Your Custom Chess Set, Just One Click Away
Google has launched an innovative chess experience, introducing a groundbreaking AI that allows players to create their own custom pieces, delighting chess enthusiasts worldwide.
Google Launches GenChess: AI Meets the Chessboard
Google continues to explore artificial intelligence, moving from DJ tools and podcast creation to the realm of chess with GenChess. This new platform utilizes the Imagen model to allow users to design custom chess pieces.
GenChess: A Fresh, Fun Experience by Google
Based on Google DeepMind’s Imagen 3 AI image generation model, which also powers ImageFX and Gemini chatbot imaging, GenChess lets users create from photorealistic to abstract designs. It offers the option to design a traditional chess set or experiment with creative shapes. After crafting your set, the AI generates a matching opponent set for a timed match.
How Does GenChess Work?
GenChess aims to revamp the ancient game of chess by enabling easy creation of custom sets, with which users can play against the computer. The platform uses the Imagen 3 model and smart prompting techniques, starting with a restrictive initial prompt from Google that users can adjust from classic to creative, adding their own descriptions.
AI: A Formidable Opponent
GenChess uniquely also crafts a corresponding adversary. For instance, if the user’s theme is “Mars,” the AI might create a “Venus” themed opponent. Choosing “dogs on the beach” could lead to facing “cats on a podium.” As a generation X tech enthusiast, I couldn’t resist creating a mobile tech-themed set, which led Google to conjure up the image for this article 🙂
