Google Lens Gets Smarter: New Instant Search Feature for iPhone

Google Lens has improved: a new feature now allows iPhone users to perform instant searches.
Google Lens Enhances for More Intuitive Searching
Google Lens, Google’s visual search tool, is rolling out two major updates to make searching easier than ever. These new features, available on both the Chrome app and the Google app for iOS, allow users to perform an instant search on their screen with a simple gesture.
Instant Screen Search for iPhone Users
The instant screen search update is being globally rolled out on iOS this week. Users of Chrome or the Google app on iPhone can now quickly search for information without needing to take a screenshot or open a new tab. With Google Lens, they can simply select, draw, or tap on any part of their screen to initiate an instant search.
To use this feature in Chrome, open the three-dot menu and select “Search screen with Google Lens.” In the Google app, tap on the three-dot menu and choose “Search this screen.” This simplifies searching, enabling users to access information about words, products, places, or even video content in seconds effortlessly.
More Comprehensive Search Results Thanks to AI
Google Lens has always been capable of identifying billions of objects (plants, products, landmarks…) by comparing images with its vast database. However, with the latest AI advancements, Lens can now analyze and provide deeper context for more unique images that lack a direct obvious match.
For instance, if you encounter a car with an unusual hood texture and wish to learn more, you can tap the camera icon in the search bar to snap a photo with Lens. Instead of merely matching the image with similar ones online, Google will now generate an AI overview—a brief explanation of what you’re looking at, accompanied by links to relevant resources.
The Updates: A Significant Advance
These updates mark a significant advance in how we interact with visual search. The ability to instantly search your screen on iOS makes Google Lens even more integrated into daily navigation. Additionally, AI previews allow for a deeper understanding of unknown objects, places, and concepts. Want to try it out? Update your Chrome or Google app on iOS and start searching your screen today.
