Google May Launch Gemini 2 AI Model Sooner Than Expected

Google may release its Gemini 2 AI model sooner than anticipated. Here's why.
Signs Point to the Imminent Release of Gemini 2
Google, the well-known tech titan, is gearing up to unveil the latest addition to its AI model family: Gemini 2. Initially scheduled for next month, the launch date now appears to be moving up.
An Unexpected Discovery
Alexey Shabanov from Testing Catalog recently stumbled upon a curious find. While navigating the model menu in the Gemini web app, he spotted a new “experimental” model named “With 2.0-Pro-Exp-0111” hidden under Gemini’s advanced options. It’s still unclear whether this unusual model name refers to Gemini 2 or is merely a labeling error.
Does It Live Up to Expectations?
Shabanov tested this new model and described it as “lightning fast”. However, it appears not to be “fully baked” yet, failing basic tests such as counting how many times the letter “r” appears in the word “strawberry”.
Gemini 2, a Major Advance
Details on Gemini 2 are still scarce. AI labs, including those backed by major tech firms, typically keep project details under wraps until all testing is complete. However, it is known that Gemini 2 will possess reasoning capabilities akin to OpenAI’s model o1. Additionally, it will power “Project Jarvis”, a new agent system to be integrated into Chrome, enabling common web tasks through natural language commands.
Moreover, if Gemini 2 follows Google’s recent trends, it will initially launch in two versions: Gemini 2 Flash for quick, lower-level responses, and Gemini 2 Pro for more advanced outcomes. According to the leak, even the Pro version will see a speed enhancement.
