Google NotebookLM Upgrades with Enhanced Audio Features and Background Playback
The AI-enhanced note-taking software now also features a version specifically designed for business use.
Google’s NotebookLM Introduces Exciting New Features
The tech world is ever-evolving, and Google is keeping pace by updating its NotebookLM software, particularly enhancing its audio summaries. These improvements significantly transform how the software is utilized.
Interactive Features for Enhanced Usability
Among the updates is a feature that allows users to provide specific instructions before generating an in-depth audio summary or “Deep Dive.” Google demonstrates this feature by enabling the software to focus on a single topic or adjust the expertise level based on the target audience, akin to slipping a quick note to the AI before it begins its task.
Additionally, a new background listening function has been added, allowing users to listen to audio summaries while engaging in other tasks within NotebookLM. According to Google, this feature enables users to review sources, gather quotes, and explore relevant citations “without interrupting the audio.”
NotebookLM Marks a Milestone
Significantly, Google has removed the “experimental” label from NotebookLM, indicating that the trial phase was a resounding success. Moreover, the software has been available to the general public since last December.
Commercial Expansion on the Horizon
Google has also announced an upcoming expansion primarily aimed at commercial use, dubbed NotebookLM Business. This new version will feature enhanced capabilities tailored for businesses, universities, and organizations. Interested businesses can now apply for early access to the pilot program. This move underscores Google’s ambition to make NotebookLM an essential tool for professional organizations.
