The perfect crumble secrets according to Gordon Ramsay
British chef Gordon Ramsay, known for his outspokenness and culinary expertise, reveals his secrets for exceptional apple crumble. Here’s what you’ll need:
For the apple filling:
6 apples
6 tablespoons of caster sugar
1 vanilla pod
1 lemon
1 pinch of cinnamon
3 tablespoons of dried cranberries
For the crumble topping:
100g of flour
2 tablespoons of sugar
50g of butter
1 pinch of cinnamon
4 tablespoons of granola or hazelnut muesli
Key steps of the recipe
Start by preparing the filling. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Rinse the apples, core them with an apple corer, and keep the skin on. Grate 3 apples and cut the other 3 into pieces. Caramelize the caster sugar in an ovenproof dish over the heat for about 5 minutes. Then add the cinnamon, the seeds from the vanilla pod, and the grated apples into the dish, place in the oven and let it cook for about two minutes.
Incorporate the apple pieces, then the dried cranberries, lemon zest, and juice. Set aside.
Prepare the crumble topping: mix the flour, caster sugar, diced butter, and cinnamon with your fingertips until you get a coarse crumb. Add the granola (or hazelnut muesli) and continue mixing to get a coarse sand.
Pour this crumble over the apple filling. Heat until the mixture bubbles, then bake for 12 to 14 minutes, until the crumble is golden brown. All that’s left is to enjoy it hot or warm, with or without a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
