Since October 1, 2024, all emergency calls to 18/112 have been consolidated under the new number 0 800 112 112. How was this unification implemented?

New Number for Outgoing Emergency Calls

As of October 1, 2024, a significant update has been implemented in the French emergency call system.

All calls made by emergency services, including firefighters, SAMU, police, and gendarmerie, will now display the number 0 800 112 112.

[IMPORTANT]⚠️Starting today, all calls from 18/112 emergency operators 🚒 will display: 0 800 112 112. This applies to calls from SAMU and the Gendarmerie as well. If you see this number, answer without hesitation! Emergency numbers remain unchanged. pic.twitter.com/qrMYy4G5dq

A Unified Number for Incoming Rescue Calls

Whether you’re receiving a call from firefighters, SAMU, police, or gendarmerie, the displayed number will now be the same. It is not a scam or a sales call, but a legitimate emergency call. Authorities remind everyone of the importance of answering these calls.

« As of Tuesday, October 1, 2024, following a technical update to the phone systems, when operation center operators from the gendarmerie, police, firefighters or SAMU need to contact you, their calls will display the number 0800 112 112. This is not a malicious or commercial call but an emergency service call. »

Traditional Emergency Numbers Remain Unchanged

It’s crucial to note that this new arrangement does not affect the traditional emergency numbers.

Citizens can still dial 15 for the SAMU, 17 for the police, 18 for the firefighters, and 112 for any emergency service from anywhere in the European Union.

Practical Tip: Save This Number

Given that this number may not be easy to remember, it is advised to save it in your phone contacts.

This way, you can be sure to respond if contacted by emergency services. Note that if you miss a call from 0 800 112 112, you can call back the number. An automated service will direct you to the appropriate party. The call is free.
