HarmonyOS NEXT Joins Android and iOS as China’s Leading OS!

Huawei has made waves with HarmonyOS NEXT, an autonomous operating system now powering over a billion devices including smartphones, tablets, and watches, bolstering China's technological independence.
Huawei’s New OS Creates Major Buzz
Huawei has once again captured headlines with this week’s launch of its autonomous mobile operating system, HarmonyOS NEXT. The unveiling also included a slew of products developed with this technology, such as the Nova 13 smartphone series, the Ultimate Green Edition watch, and the 12.2-inch Gold Collection MatePad Pro tablet.
A Vast Digital Ecosystem
HarmonyOS offers a comprehensive digital ecosystem for its users. During the launch, Huawei’s Consumer Business CEO, Yu Chengdong, announced that the platform is now utilized by over one billion devices.
A Leading Position Among Operating Systems
The significance of this breakthrough cannot be understated. HarmonyOS NEXT has quickly climbed to become the third most used mobile operating system worldwide, trailing only Android and iOS. This achievement bolsters the Chinese tech sector by reducing its reliance on foreign operating systems for domestic smartphone users.
A Major Advance
On the technical front, HarmonyOS NEXT is the most substantial update since its initial release in 2019. The platform now boasts over 15,000 native HarmonyOS applications and metadata services, according to Huawei.
Yu Chengdong highlighted the complete autonomy of HarmonyOS NEXT in development, including an OS kernel, file systems, programming languages, compilers, programming frameworks, AI frameworks, and large models. This demonstrates a significant breakthrough in core operating system technology and autonomous control.
This significant advancement revolutionizes and distinguishes HarmonyOS NEXT from its previous versions, with the Mate70 phone series, the first native HarmonyOS NEXT smartphone, set to showcase this innovation.
