With iOS 18.1, Siri has a new interface on the iPhone 15 Pro and 16, but despite its visual overhaul, its functionalities remain limited. Significant enhancements are anticipated later.

Siri Gets a Makeover with iOS 18.1

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 users can now enjoy a redesigned Siri interface with the iOS 18.1 update, featuring a bright and appealing new look. However, let’s not overstate the aesthetic changes. Despite its modernized appearance, Siri’s capabilities and intelligence have not significantly advanced.

Major Developments Await Siri

Available on supported devices, this new version of Siri is just a glimpse of what Apple’s AI has in store. While Siri’s role remains limited, some behavioral changes are noticeable. Beyond its fresh facade, Siri has become more responsive to poorly phrased or unclear requests, better grasping the intent behind a user’s stumbling words.

Siri Paves the Way for More Natural Interaction

Leveraging its enhanced intelligence, Siri can now provide information from Apple’s user manuals. If you struggle with setting up your new phone, Siri is ready to guide you through the steps. However, aside from these tutorials, the voice assistant hasn’t become much more insightful.

Siri: A Future Full of Promise

Significant improvements to Siri are expected with the release of iOS 18.2 in December. Siri will be able to query ChatGPT when it doesn’t know the answer to a user’s request, allowing for responses to a wider array of inquiries about various facts and worldly knowledge.

Another major advancement for Siri is anticipated “in the coming months”, or more likely with the iOS 18.4 release in spring. Siri will then be able to access user’s personal data to respond to new types of queries, such as examining your messaging conversations, emails, and calendar events to answer questions like “When is my flight” or “What is that book Jane recommended?”.

While Siri may look and sound better today, patience is required to see more meaningful features. We should not expect a dramatic evolution with iOS 18.4; many tasks that Siri fails at today, like controlling multiple HomeKit accessories in one request, will likely remain a challenge.
