The upcoming release of iOS 18.2 is set to transform your iPhone with an array of new features.

Apple Updates Its Operating System

Apple has just unveiled what is likely the final beta version of its operating system, iOS 18.2. This significant update is almost ready to be rolled out to all eligible iPhone owners. If your iPhone is compatible with Apple Intelligence and its new features, you’re in for a treat with this latest software version. Those with older models might be less excited, but the introduction of new features is always a welcome development.

Innovative Features

The bulk of the iOS 18.2 update focuses on incorporating Apple Intelligence features into the iPhone. Image Playground is highlighted first in Apple’s release notes, described as “a new app that lets you use concepts, descriptions, and people from your photo library to create fun and playful images in various styles”.

Another addition is Genmoji, enabling users to create custom emojis right from the keyboard. Although not as groundbreaking as Image Playground, this feature looks promising.

Advanced AI Integration

The most thrilling addition is undoubtedly the support for ChatGPT, which was highly publicized during the initial announcement of Apple Intelligence. Apple states that “ChatGPT by OpenAI can be accessed directly through Siri or Writing Tools”, allowing Siri to utilize ChatGPT when appropriate to provide responses. The release notes also mention the option to connect with your ChatGPT account to enjoy its benefits, though an account is not necessary and requests remain anonymous.

Ongoing Improvements

The update also includes features like Visual Intelligence with Camera Control, mail categorization, video visualization enhancements, improvements in navigating Collection views, and layered recording in voice memos. Visual Intelligence, akin to Google Lens meets Circle to Search, enables users to point their iPhone camera at a restaurant to get its rating and other details, or add a concert date directly to their calendar after scanning a poster.

This specific update primarily aims to fix bugs related to these new features, which is always good news. As this is the release candidate, it should be the final version, barring any major bugs, giving developers what we will see next week.
