iOS 19 May Move Search Bar to Bottom of Phone Screen

The upcoming iOS 19 update may transform iPhone usability by moving the search bar to the bottom of the screen, enhancing the user experience with smoother and more intuitive navigation.
Radical Changes Coming to iOS 19
Apple, the tech titan, is set to unveil iOS 19 at WWDC 2025. Buzz suggests that the mobile operating system will see multiple major updates. One particularly significant potential change is expected to make large iPhones easier to use.
Rumor Hints at Search Bar Move
Controversial tech reporter Jon Prosser, in his latest video on Front Page Tech (via 9to5Mac), reports possible changes in iOS 19. Prosser states that Apple might move the search bar from the top to the bottom of apps.
In iOS 18, the search bar is at the top, which is not the most comfortable position for one-handed typing. If this rumor holds true, moving the search bar lower could enhance one-handed iPhone use.
App Mockups Displayed
In Prosser’s video, a mockup of the Messages app shows the search bar at the bottom, permanently visible, just millimeters from the screen’s edge, says Prosser. He also showed mockups for the Music and App Store apps, where tab bars are logically placed near the bottom, convenient for thumb or finger typing.
Handle Leaks with Caution
However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman tweets, “The circulating images of iOS 19 may not reflect what we’ll see at WWDC”, indicating they might be based on outdated versions or vague descriptions. Yet, he notes that such mockups, whether real or not, are always thrilling for Apple enthusiasts.
Gurman emphasizes that more definitive information will be available at Apple’s WWDC 2025, where updates on all of Apple’s operating systems, including iOS 19, are expected.
