iPhone 20: Apple Plans Revolutionary Release for 2027

Apple is planning a foldable iPhone and an all-glass design to celebrate the smartphone's 20th anniversary, aiming to make a historic impact, reports Mark Gurman.
A Glimpse into the Future with the iPhone 20
Although the iPhone 20’s release is still years away, Apple is already plotting a major redesign for the device. According to Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter, Apple plans a significant overhaul for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary in 2027.
A Foldable iPhone and More Glass
“The company is preparing a major shake-up for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, including a foldable version and a bold new Pro model that extensively uses glass,” Gurman stated. It’s worth noting that the last significant redesign was with the iPhone X, launched in 2017 for the device’s tenth anniversary.
Rumors and Speculations
However, the specifics of how Apple plans to evolve the iPhone in its third decade remain vague in Gurman’s comments. There are rumors of a foldable iPhone and iPad/MacBook expected next year rather than in 2027. Moreover, incorporating more glass appears to be a design priority, judging by the presumed changes to the iPhone 17 Pro.
Nonetheless, it’s challenging to foresee how Apple might revolutionize the smartphone market again as it did with the iPhone X. Perhaps Apple’s engineers have yet another groundbreaking idea that will eventually become a standard in all smartphones, similar to the large, gesture-based screen.
What About the iPhone 17?
Looking ahead to 2025, this year’s launch is expected to be the iPhone 17 series, which is set to introduce ProMotion displays to the base models, enhance telephoto cameras in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, and tweak their design slightly. As for iOS 19, it is set to debut at WWDC 2025, starting June 9, featuring a redesigned camera app and new AI capabilities such as health coaching.
