iPhone Flip and Foldable iPad May Enter Production Next Year

Apple’s Foldable Future is Underway

It seems that the whispers of a foldable iPhone have been around forever. Yet, according to renowned analyst Jeff Pu, the wait for these innovative devices on the market may be drawing to a close.

Two Foldable Devices in Production

In a research note with GF Securities (via MacRumors), Pu discloses that two of Apple’s foldable devices have initiated the New Product Introduction (NPI) process at Foxconn, Apple’s main manufacturer. Mass production of these foldable devices is scheduled to start in the second half of 2026, with prototyping kicking off as early as April this year.

A Foldable iPhone and iPad on the Horizon

While Pu didn’t elaborate on these devices, it’s not hard to infer their identities. Recent rumors align with the idea that we might soon see two distinct foldable devices. The first is the long-awaited iPhone Flip, featuring an 8-inch foldable display. The second is a foldable iPad, potentially offering up to 19 inches of screen space.

We may not have to wait long for more details to emerge, especially if prototyping is indeed about to begin.

A Much-Needed Refresh for Apple

Pu predicts that 2025 will be a “tepid” year for iPhone shipments, partly due to Apple’s delays in enhancing Siri’s AI capabilities. In this context, the launch of foldable devices could provide a welcome breath of fresh air, particularly for Foxconn. Here’s hoping that Apple’s foldable devices arrive sooner than anticipated, especially since the company has spent the last 6 or 7 years toying with the idea of foldable iPhones without significant progress.
