Meta AI Now Uses Your Facebook and Instagram Activities to Enhance Recommendations

Meta's new AI will now refine and personalize recommendations by analyzing your activities on Facebook and Instagram.
Meta Enhances AI to Improve User Experience
Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has upgraded its AI assistant by integrating a “memory” feature aimed at boosting its utility. This enhancement allows the assistant to “remember specific details you share in one-on-one chats” and to utilize your past activities on Facebook and Instagram to tailor its recommendations.
User Preferences at the Heart of Personalization
This update, currently available in the US and Canada, enables Meta’s AI to track your preferences based on the information you disclose in chats. For instance, if you mention food allergies or dietary restrictions, the AI will “remember” these details to suggest recipes that cater to your dietary needs.
More Personalized Interactions
The assistant can also retain other personal details, including information about your personal life and relationships. “Other profile information like your age and gender, as well as interests based on your activity across our products, such as the types of content—including ads—that you view or interact with, and how you engage with them”, can be leveraged to personalize your interactions with the AI, according to the company’s Help Center.
Competition in the AI Assistant Arena
The announcement of Meta’s AI updates comes amid growing excitement around DeepSeek, a China-based AI assistant that has recently topped Apple’s App Store as the most popular app. Developed for less than $6 million, DeepSeek’s sudden surge in popularity has sent shockwaves through investors and the AI industry. However, Yann Le Cun, Meta’s AI Chief Scientist, stated on Monday that “the market’s reaction to DeepSeek is greatly overblown”.
