Meta Aims to Integrate Its Llama AI into UK Public Health System

Meta plans to incorporate its artificial intelligence, Llama, into the UK's public healthcare system, aiming to enhance service efficiency and patient care.
Meta Ventures into the UK Healthcare System
Tech titan Meta is making strides into the UK’s public health sector by incorporating its Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. According to a report by The Guardian, Meta spearheaded a hackathon in Europe, rallying over 200 developers to enhance British healthcare services using its AI, Llama.
Governmental Support
The UK’s AI Minister, Feryal Clark, told The Guardian that the government is open to adopting Meta’s AI to aid its key missions. She emphasized that the government is ready to tackle the significant risks posed by AI, ensuring that any new regulations are balanced, foster innovation, and do not overly burden businesses.
Meta’s Long-Term Interest
When asked about Meta’s interest in this venture, given that the UK’s use of open-source AI might not provide immediate financial returns, Nick Clegg, Meta’s President of Global Affairs, explained it as a long-term investment. “It indirectly benefits us to see this innovation ecosystem around Llama thrive, as it makes it easier for us to integrate existing innovations into our products,” he stated.
Skepticism Towards AI
Clegg dismissed concerns about AI’s encroachment into government operations humorously. “Who knows, maybe by next Tuesday, AI will develop its own volition and decide to turn us all into paperclips,” he joked with The Guardian. “But currently, the technology is far more primitive than many fears suggest.”
