Meta Plans to Introduce Ads on Threads Starting January

Meta plans to launch advertisements on Threads by January 2025, aiming for swift monetization of its rapidly growing app, which already boasts 275 million monthly users.
Meta Plans to Introduce Ads on Threads
A recent report from The Information reveals that Meta is set to roll out advertisements on its Threads app by January 2025. This move suggests that the company aims to monetize the rapidly growing service sooner than previously indicated by Meta’s executives.
Threads, Potential to Reach a Billion Users
In August, Mark Zuckerberg stated that Threads, with its 200 million users, has the potential to be the next billion-user platform. However, he had described the app’s monetization as a “long-term project,” expected to unfold over several years.
Gradual Rollout of Advertising
Meta plans to introduce advertising on Threads gradually, starting with a “small number” of advertisers in January. The pace of expansion for this initiative remains unclear. A Meta spokesperson stated, “Our primary focus is on building consumer value, hence there are currently no ads or monetization features on Threads.”
Rapid Growth for Threads
Meta’s strategies highlight the fast growth of the service. Threads now has 275 million monthly users and gains over a million new sign-ups each day, according to Zuckerberg. This rapid increase makes it by far the largest among recent X alternatives. In comparison, Bluesky, another Twitter-like service, also saw significant growth recently, adding a million new users last week, though it still trails far behind Threads with 15 million users.
