Meta’s AI Launches in Europe This Week

This week, Europe will host the launch of Meta AI, marking a significant technological advancement in the field of artificial intelligence.
Meta Expands Its AI Assistant Across Europe
Technology giant Meta has announced the expansion of its artificial intelligence (AI) assistant to 41 European countries, including EU member states, and 21 overseas territories. The rollout, starting this week, was delayed due to the complexities of European regulations, Meta stated.
Regulatory Hurdles
Last year, Meta aimed to make its AI technology available in Europe. However, the Irish Data Protection Commission intervened, requesting the company to postpone training its large language models on content posted by European adult users on Facebook and Instagram. Following this, Meta decided not to launch its new multimodal Llama models in the region due to the “uncertainty of the European regulatory environment.”
AI Integration in Messaging Apps
Meta has opted to first introduce its AI technology in its messaging applications, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. Users will soon notice a blue circle on the interface of these apps. Initially, Meta’s AI assistant will be available in six European languages and will focus primarily on text requests. However, Meta plans to gradually enhance the AI’s capabilities, aiming for “parity with the United States.”
How to Use Meta’s AI Assistant
European users can engage with Meta’s AI in group chats by typing @MetaAI followed by their query or command. They can also use the chatbot to highlight relevant posts and Reels by entering queries like “show me content about Vancouver Island.” Additionally, users can search for web information directly through the chatbot.
