A study by Lyf and OpinionWay reveals that digital payment services are changing French consumer habits, with 54% of Apple Pay and Google Pay users having abandoned an online purchase when unable to use their preferred digital payment methods.

Digital Wallets Gain Popularity in France

The report also shows a significant rise in the use of digital wallets, with 42% of participants using them, up 4 points from last year. Additionally, 69% of respondents favored dematerialized loyalty cards, and 65% adopted contactless mobile payments.

As Anne-Laure Marchal, Director of Corporate and Opinion Issues at OpinionWay, points out, “Mobile payment services have become embedded in French consumers’ routines, experiencing substantial growth since 2021“.

Mobile Apps: A Key Stake for Retailers

In the retail sector, 67% of survey participants use their primary supermarket’s mobile app, with a gender discrepancy showing 71% of females versus 63% of males. Moreover, 80% of supermarket mobile app users consider making payments through these platforms, highlighting the growing influence of digital technology in the retail industry.
