Netanyahu in Washington Today: Tariffs, Iran, and Gaza on the Agenda

This Monday, Benjamin Netanyahu is traveling to Washington for a crucial visit, where he will discuss key issues including tariffs, the situation in Iran, and the crisis in Gaza.
A Meeting with Multiple Stakes
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House on Monday, April 7, for talks with U.S. President Donald Trump amid a tense backdrop characterized by U.S. tariff hikes, escalating tensions with Iran, and Israeli military actions in Gaza.
A Negotiation Strategy
Netanyahu, the first foreign leader to meet Trump following the new tariff announcement, aims to “persuade the American president to reconsider his decision”, or at least mitigate the tariff impact on Israeli imports.
The new U.S. tariffs, which are 10% on most imports but reach 17% for Israeli goods, significantly burden Israel’s economy, Netanyahu indicated before departing from Budapest: “I am the first international leader, the first foreign leader to discuss such a critical matter for Israel’s economy with President Trump.”
Between Tensions and Negotiations
Alongside, issues in Gaza and the Iranian threat are also key topics of discussion. Despite an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court for suspected war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, Netanyahu continues his international engagements, including this U.S. visit.
Israel resumed its Gaza offensive after a two-month truce brokered by the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt. Regarding Iran, Trump has pushed for “direct negotiations” on a new deal to curb the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program, threatening military action should diplomacy fail.
This array of challenges sets the stage for a highly critical meeting that could shape the future of U.S.-Israel relations.
