Nintendo Unveils New Gadget Ahead of Switch 2 Release

Nintendo has just announced a new gadget designed to keep you entertained while you wait for the release of the Switch 2.
A Nintendo Surprise
As anticipation builds for next year’s Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo has unexpectedly announced a new device today. The video game giant introduced the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, an alarm clock featuring sound effects and theme songs from beloved Nintendo franchises such as Mario and Splatoon.
Alarmo: More Than Just an Alarm Clock
Beyond its basic function, Alarmo serves as a sleep monitor that tracks your sleep cycles. Nintendo claims the clock can “monitor your body movements and respond to your actions”.
Alarmo boasts several unique features:
It will launch with themes and sound effects from five Nintendo games, including Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Pikmin 4, Splatoon 3, and Ring Fit Adventure. Each game comes with multiple themes.
When the alarm goes off in the morning, it plays your chosen game’s theme. Depending on whether you get up or not, the built-in motion sensor adjusts the music or employs other sound effects to motivate you. Once it detects you’re standing, it celebrates with a sound, like Mario collecting coins, and then ceases. A button on top of the clock stops the sounds.
Alarmo also features a 24 GHz motion sensor that tracks your movements throughout the night, functioning as a sleep monitor and providing some sleep data.
During the day, the clock brings your chosen game characters to life every hour on the hour with unique animations and sounds.
Alarmo is Wi-Fi enabled and appears capable of receiving software updates for new themes, including from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

While Waiting for the Switch 2…
For those eager for more, Nintendo is expected to launch the Switch 2 in April next year. A formal announcement is anticipated before the end of the fiscal year on March 31, 2025, although it is likely to occur sooner.
