ChatGPT will provide direct quotes and links to the company's content.

Hearst and OpenAI: A Landmark Agreement

Hearst, the prominent American publisher, has forged a landmark agreement with OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT. This collaboration will integrate content from over 60 Hearst-owned publications into ChatGPT and other OpenAI products, including major titles like Esquire, Cosmopolitan, Elle, and the San Francisco Chronicle.

A Leap Towards Innovation

With Hearst’s content featured in ChatGPT, the AI will offer direct quotes and links, ensuring full transparency. However, unlike the May deal with Dotdash Meredith, the Hearst agreement does not appear to include plans for collaborative development in advertising technology.

The Importance of Professional Journalism

“As generative AI matures, it’s critical that professional journalism remains at the core of all AI products,” stated Jeff Johnson, president of Hearst’s Newspapers unit. This partnership will ensure that Hearst’s meticulously crafted, award-winning journalistic content enriches OpenAI’s offerings.

OpenAI: An Expanding AI Titan

This announcement comes just a week after OpenAI secured a record $6.6 billion in venture capital funding. Since early 2024, OpenAI has secured licensing deals with The Financial Times and Condé Nast, owner of Vogue, The New Yorker, and Wired. However, not all publishers are keen on partnering with the AI powerhouse. Late last year, The New York Times filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, followed shortly by Alden Capital Group.
