Raspberry Pi and Sony Launch AI-Powered Camera Module
The $70 artificial intelligence camera model is compatible with all Raspberry Pi microcomputers and doesn't require additional accelerators or a graphics processor. What do you think is the most promising application for these technologies?
The Future of AI: An Affordable Camera by Raspberry Pi and Sony
What’s the latest cutting-edge product from Raspberry Pi and Sony? A top-tier artificial intelligence (AI) camera. Priced at just $70, it’s set to revolutionize the future of AI technology.
Purpose of the AI Camera
Raspberry Pi states that this camera module, developed in collaboration with Sony, will simplify the creation of advanced AI solutions for users. This represents a significant leap forward for developers, especially those working with image-based applications.
Benefits of the Raspberry Pi AI Camera
Its broad compatibility is a key benefit. The camera can be used with any Raspberry Pi single-board computer. It integrates Raspberry Pi’s RP2040 microcontroller and Sony’s IMX500 image sensor, the latter handling AI processing. This eliminates the need for additional components like accelerators or GPUs, which are typically necessary to process large volumes of visual data.
Technical Features
Technically speaking, the Raspberry Pi AI camera boasts a 12.3-megapixel resolution. It can capture images at 10 frames per second at 4056 x 3040 resolution, or 40 frames per second at 2028 x 1520. It also features manually adjustable focus and a 76-degree field of view. Measuring just 25 x 24 x 11.9mm, its size is nearly identical to last year’s Camera Module 3 by Raspberry Pi.
