Samsung Unveils the Galaxy A16 5G
Without an official announcement, Samsung has introduced the Galaxy A16 5G, its first budget smartphone to offer six generations of Android updates and six years of security patches.
A Budget Smartphone with Enhanced Performance
The Galaxy A16 5G is a strong contender in the budget phone category and might outshine the Moto G 5G (2024) as the top choice for phones under 300 euros. Samsung has implemented several significant upgrades over its predecessor, the Galaxy A15 5G, including:
- A 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, up from 6.5 inches on the A15 5G.
- A sleeker design, measuring just 7.9mm in width compared to 8.4mm for the A15 5G.
- The removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack, enhancing water and dust resistance (IP54 rating).
Solid Technical Specifications
The Galaxy A16 5G maintains the same 4 GB of RAM and a 5,000 mAh battery as its predecessor but features a new octa-core processor, likely the Exynos 1330. It also offers 128 GB of storage, which can be expanded up to 1.5 TB with a microSD card.
A Capable Camera Setup
For photography, the A16 5G sports a trio of rear lenses—50MP, 5MP, and 2MP—alongside a 13MP front-facing selfie camera. It will be available in four colors: Black Blue, Light Gray, Gold, and Light Green, though availability may vary by market.
The Galaxy A16 5G also ensures six years of Android OS updates and security fixes, a first for Samsung’s budget smartphone series. This gives the A16 5G a significant edge, especially considering that Samsung’s flagship models, like the Galaxy S24, only offer seven years of updates, just one year more.
The price of the Galaxy A16 5G has not been set yet but is expected to range between $200 and $250, according to Samsung’s French website. Shipments are expected to begin soon, so stay tuned.
