Samsung’s Project Moohan: A Serious Contender to Apple?

The Project Moohan from Samsung, introduced at MWC 2025, has remained shrouded in mystery. However, a recent report from The Elec may have revealed some critical details.

A Screen Technology Superior to Apple Vision Pro

According to The Elec, Samsung plans to use a pair of 1.3-inch Sony OLEDoS 4K panels in Project Moohan, boasting a pixel density of 3,800 ppi, which exceeds the 3,391 ppi Sony screens used by Apple. Sony is set to start mass production of these panels for Project Moohan next month, with shipments to Samsung to follow. While this does not provide a precise release date for the headset, it indicates a launch isn’t imminent.

A Direct Response to Apple Vision Pro?

The Elec also suggests that Samsung initially planned to release a headset in 2023. However, these plans were delayed after learning about the Apple Vision Pro’s specifications. Samsung’s stance appears to be that “hardware specifications and manufacturing competitiveness are strengths that Samsung Electronics needs to highlight,” implying a desire to outdo Apple in the emerging mixed reality industry.

A Limited Edition… for Now

According to the report, Samsung intends to produce about 100,000 Moohan headsets and plans to develop more models in the future. A less expensive model is also expected. However, the timing of such a device’s launch remains unclear. It might arrive before Apple’s low-cost Vision headset. Samsung is likely to wait and see how the commercial version of Project Moohan performs before making further decisions.
