Sicily: Two Found Dead in Mike Lynch’s Yacht Wreck, Four Still Missing

Search efforts for the six missing individuals from Mike Lynch's luxury yacht, "Bayesian," resumed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Despite fading hopes, three victims have already been recovered. What will happen to the others?
Maritime Tragedy Strikes
In the early hours of last Monday, a tornado caused the sinking of the “Bayesian,” a 56-meter British-flagged yacht, anchored just 700 meters off Porticello, east of Palermo.
A Moment of Horror
Just hours before the catastrophe, the “Bayesian” was a scene of celebration. Mike Lynch, a wealthy British businessman, was marking his recent acquittal in June from a U.S. fraud trial that could have imprisoned him for years.
The yacht sank within minutes. Among the fifteen rescued were a mother and her one-year-old baby. Tragically, a crew member was found deceased.
List of the Missing
The six missing individuals include Mike Lynch and his daughter Hannah; Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International, and his wife; and Chris Morvillo, Lynch’s lawyer during his U.S. trial, along with his wife.
The swift sinking of the yacht and the lack of damage to nearby boats have raised multiple questions. Notably, the position of the weighted keel, which serves as a counterbalance for the yacht’s large mast during the storm, is under scrutiny.
