Snapchat is revolutionizing user experience with its new AI-based video filters, turning users into stars of animated mini-movies. This cutting-edge feature is exclusively available to Platinum subscribers, marking a milestone for the platform.

Snapchat Advances Further into Artificial Intelligence

In an increasingly interconnected world, social networks are constantly innovating to attract and retain users. Snapchat, a favorite among the younger generation, is no exception. The app has unveiled its first AI-powered video filters, marking a significant step in its commitment to cutting-edge technology.

Animated Filters to Captivate Users

The first three filters introduced by the app turn users into stars of their mini-animated movies. Users can see themselves on screen cuddling virtual animals, such as a raccoon or a fox. A third filter, named “Spring Flowers”, creates a bouquet of flowers and then uses a zoom-out effect to reveal the user holding it. These new features, like future ones, are powered by a generative video model developed internally by Snapchat.

A Constant Technological Evolution

In its announcement, Snapchat stated: “We have a long history as pioneers in bringing advanced AR, ML, and AI tools directly to our community, and we are excited to see what Snapchatters will create”. Indeed, the company was the first to introduce a chatbot powered by OpenAI in its app in 2023 and has since continued to develop AI-based features. Recently, Snapchat introduced an AI video generation tool for creators, allowing users to create videos from simple text prompts.

Exclusive Access for Platinum Subscribers

However, these new features will be exclusively available to users with a Platinum subscription, costing $16 per month. These subscribers will see the new filters first in their carousel and can use them with both the front and rear cameras of their device. All videos created will be automatically saved in the user’s Memories, from where they can directly share them with friends, on their Stories, or with the public via Spotlight.
