Sony Sells 65 Million PS5 Units

During the last quarter, she sold 77.7 million games, marking a 10 million increase from the previous year.
Impressive Sales Figures for Sony
Sony, the Japanese giant, has recently reported remarkable sales figures for the PlayStation 5. Despite a slight dip in console sales compared to last year, the electronics powerhouse managed to sell an impressive 65.5 million PlayStation 5s by the end of the second quarter of 2024.
Game Sales Offset Console Decline
The decline in console sales was significantly offset by a substantial increase in game sales. With a total of 77.7 million units sold, marking a 14.9% rise from the second quarter of 2023, the number of active users on the PlayStation network remained stable at 116 million despite a significant price increase at the end of 2023. Notably, the action RPG Black Myth: Wukong was a standout success, selling 20 million units in the second quarter alone, highlighting the impact of hit games on sales.
Spectacular Profit Surge
Fueled by these sales figures and the launch of the pricier and likely more profitable PlayStation 5 Pro, Sony saw a 9% increase in revenue. More impressively, its operating profit soared by 73% to reach 445.1 billion yen (approximately $2.91 billion). Buoyed by these results, Sony is optimistic about the remainder of the year, slightly raising its revenue forecasts.
Highly Anticipated Titles for 2025
Sony is not resting on its laurels and plans to launch highly anticipated titles such as Assassin’s Creed Shadow and Monster Hunter Wilds by the end of its fiscal year on March 31, 2025. However, the fiscal year 2025 promises to be even more exciting, with the release of eagerly awaited games like Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and the highly coveted Grand Theft Auto VI.
