Spain Hits Record Temperatures Amid Intense Heatwave

On Wednesday, July 31, Spain's meteorological agency reported new temperature records, particularly in Zaragoza in the northeast. What will tomorrow bring?
Spain Battles Record Heat
Spain is currently sizzling under historically high temperatures. This Wednesday, July 31, Zaragoza Airport recorded an unprecedented temperature of 28.1°C.
Forecasting Future Temperatures
Spain’s national meteorological agency, Aemet, forecasts the continuation of this hot trend, with a “70% chance of above-normal temperatures” and a “40 to 50% likelihood of drier conditions, as opposed to a 20 to 25% chance of increased rainfall” as autumn approaches.
Temperatures might continue to challenge records through August, September, and October.

Increasingly Hot Summers
Earlier this year, Spain experienced its historically warmest January with an average temperature of 8.4 degrees on the mainland, with some areas nearing 30°C.
Rising Heat Episodes
Spain is increasingly facing heatwaves, often outside the summer months. This concerning phenomenon is underscored by 2023 being the second hottest year on record, with an average temperature of 15.2°C and a total of 44 days of absolute heat records.
Global warming is leaving an indelible mark on the Iberian Peninsula.
