Substack Now Allows All Publishers to Live Stream

Substack now allows all publishers to stream live videos, broadening their ability to communicate and interact with readers in real time.
Substack: Live Video Now Accessible to All
Online publishing platform Substack, increasingly pivoting towards social media, has recently made its live video feature available to all users. Initially tested last year with its most influential users, the “Bestsellers,” the company now allows any publisher on its platform with at least 10 free subscribers to stream live content.
Interactivity and Collaboration: The Hallmarks of Live Video
Publishers opting for live streaming can interact with viewer comments in real-time, similar to Twitch. Additionally, they can invite up to three other publishers to join their live stream, enhancing the collaborative aspect of the broadcasts.
Monetization and Content Promotion
Following a live session, publishers receive a copy of the video and AI-generated notes. These videos can be published as standalone posts, allowing fans who missed the live event to watch at their leisure. By default, these videos are publicly accessible when shared as posts, but they can also be placed behind a paywall. Substack’s AI can also create clips to help draw viewers to the main video.
A Popular Tool Still Under Evaluation
“Substack’s Bestsellers are pleased with this feature, which allows them to engage their audience more effectively than before.” However, the real impact of live video on the platform is yet to be determined, as more publishers experiment with it. In an era where live streaming options abound, it’s uncertain whether this feature will achieve the anticipated success.
