Threads Begins Testing Community Notes

Threads is now testing community notes, a feature that could revolutionize how users interact and share information within their community.
Meta Introduces New Feature
Meta, the technology giant, has begun testing a new feature called “Community Notes” on its Threads platform, as revealed by developer Alessandro Paluzzi. He shared screenshots giving a sneak peek of the feature.
What are “Community Notes”?
“Community Notes,” similar to “Birdwatch” on other platforms, allows users to write community-based notes on Threads posts.
The process is straightforward: a “Write Community Note” option appears in a post’s menu on Threads. Users can then submit their notes anonymously. If the community finds the note useful, it will be displayed under the post.
Moderation Evolves
This new feature marks a significant shift in moderation on Threads. Previously, the app discouraged the sharing and promotion of “political” content. Now, it will also suggest political posts.
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram and Threads, explained how users can control the volume of political content in their feed. Meta now offers three options: “See less,” aiming to filter out political content, “Standard,” which includes a moderate amount of political content, and “See more,” treating political content like any other.
Controversial Changes
It’s too early to tell whether these new features will meet user expectations or enhance their experience on Threads. However, these changes align with Meta’s image as a proponent of free speech.
