Turn Your Phone into a Modern PSP with the MCON Game Controller
Learn how the MCON game controller can turn your phone into a modern-day PSP Go, offering a revamped mobile gaming experience.
A New Era in Mobile Gaming: The MCON
Mobile gaming has come a long way since the days of Snake. Gadgets like the Backbone One and Scuf Nomad are clear evidence of this evolution. Now, a new mobile controller is making waves: the MCON. If you’re fond of slide-out gaming devices like the PSP Go, the MCON will undoubtedly earn a spot in your gaming arsenal.
A Pocket-Sized Controller for an Enhanced Gaming Experience
Unveiled at CES 2025, the MCON mobile game controller introduces a fresh way to game on the go. Designed by North Carolina-based mobile accessory brand Ohsnap, this controller features a magnetic system similar to MagSafe to attach a smartphone—be it iPhone or Android—and turn it into a true portable gaming powerhouse.
Connecting via Bluetooth for low-latency play, the MCON magnetically attaches to the back of your phone and features a satisfying sliding mechanism activated by its shoulder buttons. It’s compact enough to fit in a pocket yet can be easily detached when not in use.
Impressive Features for Easy Handling
The controller boasts foldable grips for easier handling and utilizes Hall effect joysticks for smooth and precise directional inputs. It also includes two sets of rear shoulder buttons, along with silent yet responsive buttons that ensure a comfortable and seamless gaming experience.
I had the chance to test the MCON with an iPhone, and it performed flawlessly thanks to its MagSafe compatibility. Fortunately, Android phones or cases that don’t support MagSafe aren’t left out, as the MCON will come with a MagSafe adapter included in the box.
The MCON: A True Gem for Mobile Gaming
The MCON is versatile enough to accommodate a variety of smartphones and even works with foldable devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. This is where the MCON truly shines, as the larger screen mimics a genuine handheld gaming console. Whether you’re playing Call of Duty: Mobile, Minecraft, or Genshin Impact, this controller enhances the best aspects of mobile gaming.
The MCON game controller is currently featured on KickStarter and is expected to fully launch by August 2025. “We can’t wait to get our hands on it, especially paired with a foldable device (imagine the possibilities with a Samsung tri-fold).”
