Air travel comes with several restrictions, particularly regarding luggage. New rules now also prohibit carrying specific items and foods in the cabin. What are these newly banned elements?

New Luggage Restrictions

Air travel is becoming increasingly complicated. With the limited number of bags allowed, specific size requirements, and prohibited cabin items, travelers may find it confusing. The complexity has further increased with new regulations focusing on electronic devices and liquid products over 100 ml.

Prohibited Cabin Items: The List Grows

In addition to knives, firearms, and sharp objects, the list of forbidden items on planes now includes “liquid products over 100 ml”. This rule was reinstated on September 1 by the European Commission after being temporarily lifted earlier in the year due to new scanners which, however, failed to detect explosive liquids.

Luggage Size: A Traveler’s Dilemma

The airline you choose can affect the permitted carry-on luggage size. Accepted dimensions vary by carrier. For instance, Volotea allows bags of 40×30×20 cm, EasyJet 45×36×20 cm, and Ryanair 40×20×25 cm. It’s crucial to check the dimensions as well as weight and size restrictions to avoid extra fees before traveling.

What About Other Items and Food in the Cabin?

No new rules have been introduced regarding the transport of food and certain items in the cabin. However, it’s worth noting that powered-down e-cigarettes, lithium batteries, laptops, camcorders, and cameras are allowed in carry-on bags.

Editorial Opinion

While these new rules may seem restrictive to some travelers, they are primarily in place to ensure our safety during flights. Therefore, it is essential to stay informed before traveling to avoid any surprises. Remember, the journey begins the moment we start packing our bags.
