Why Apple’s iOS 18.2 Update Will Amaze Users

Apple has announced a significant update with iOS 18.2, which will now allow users to share their AirTag locations with others and introduces an upcoming feature for airlines.
Apple Unveils New Feature for Lost Luggage
Apple has introduced a significant new feature in the public beta of iOS 18.2 that allows users to share the location of their AirTag with others. Named Share Item Location, this function could be invaluable for tracking lost luggage during travel by sharing its whereabouts with the airline.
A Valuable Tool for Travelers
Revealed in a press release, the Share Item Location feature creates a link that integrates with the Find My app on iPhone, iPad, or Mac. This link can be shared, and the recipient can use it to view a map pinpointing the missing item’s location. The feature can be manually deactivated, or the link will automatically expire after seven days.
Privacy at the Core of the Feature
If the object moves, the map will update to show the last detected movement with the date and time. Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services, emphasized the feature’s role in helping users retrieve their belongings while safeguarding their privacy. “With Share Item Location, we’re excited to offer users a new way to easily share this information with third parties like airlines, while protecting their privacy,” Cue stated.
Global Rollout on the Horizon
The Share Item Location function is currently available in the iOS 18.2 beta across most regions globally. Apple also plans to partner with 15 airlines, including Delta, United, Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic, Air Canada, and British Airways, which will “privately and securely” accept shared links from travelers. This airline sharing capability will roll out in the coming months.
